Some Comments on the Apprentice 2 (Week 13)
1. No Brain Ivana
I cannot understand why she would choose lead in this week. On one hand, at the end of this task, only four people will remain and the project manager of the winning team will no longer be exempt from firing next week. There is no positive side to this position. On the other hand, PMs of losing teams are much more likely to be fired. There is no up side but huge down side. I don't know what she was thinking. I will never have any idea how she learned finance.
JM is much smarter. She hesitated and let Sandy take the position.
2. A Pact is Torn Up
Before the borad room meeting, Ivana and Kevin agreed not to go after each other. In a private interview, Kevin said Ivana was one of the few candidates he considered a friend. In another interview, Ivana said she would have no choice but go after Kevin. It looks like Kevin took the high moral position.
Now look at what exactly happened in the boardroom.
When asked who should be fired, Ivana, affected by Kevin's sweet words, said Kelly should be fired. Kelly performed well and was exempt. It was obvious Ivana wanted to protect Kevin.
When it was Kevin's turn, he strategically mentioned Ivana's track records. So past track records suddenly became an important measurement, and Ivana was stabbed on the back and fired.
Ivana was a nice person but was stupid. Kevin was smarter but a horrible person.
3. Stripping?
It was another mystery why Ivana would strip. As Kelly said, this did not reflect too good on her as a business woman. This goes back to the ultimate conflict between managers and owners. As an owner of the shop, it might be an acceptable strategy to do this. But as a manager or a candidate of the game, the more important thing is to look good and make sure your ass is not the one to be fired!
She is creative but not calculating enough to survive.
